Hi, all - feels like things have been kind of quiet here lately. Still settling in at my new place. I'm hoping to finally have some new model pics up next weekend. Well, I wanted to have them up this weekend, but it's going to be raining tomorrow 
, so I can't do any photoshoots. I'm going to have to wait one more week.
I have been designing and building a model of the absurdly cute Shmoopie from Yo-Kai Watch, to release on Valentine's Day this week (even though I loathe Valentine's Day - Happy Singles Awareness Day). You might have already seen some of the pics if you've been following my Facebook page. I expect to finish my build in time, but if I don't, I may just hold it off until next year.
Aside from that, I've been working on a few other papercraft designs. Got a major one that's been delayed multiple times finally being built, only to be delayed again when I lost a couple pieces in the move
. Of course, I also have some other designs in the works, which I'll be showing more of in the coming months.
And what about my convention adventures. Well, I'll be attending Philly Comics and Cosplay Day in March, though I will not be presenting (didn't learn about the event until after all the presenters slots were filled). I will still have my papercraft album on me, so if by chance anybody sees me there (or at any convention for that matter), feel free to ask me to take a look. Also, I have confirmed I'll be returning to Zenkaikon as a presenter again this year in early May.
I did my presentation at Kotoricon again, and it went good - didn't have the same issues I had getting in contact with con staff that I had last year. But the weather that day was terrible - it was horrendously windy. While I was trying to unpack my Aron cosplay mask to show at the panel, the wind knocked it out of my hands and broke it
. I'll need to get some more resin so I can repair it before Zenkaikon. But if I'm going to buy another tub of resin, I'm going to need another interesting project to make with it, so I've been trying to come up with another papercraft cosplay idea.
Anyway, I'd better get to work on some of these projects. Talk to you later.

On Instagram
So at my last couple conventions, I very frequently got asked if I had an Instagram. The answer was no. The problem with Instagram was simple, it only let me upload images from my phone, not a desktop. Which doesn't really work for me. Back in the old days, of 2015 (it feels strange calling 2015 "the old days"), when I first started taking pics of my models, phone cameras were not as good as they are today. I mean, I could still get a decent picture out of the phone camera I had at that time, but only after struggling a lot with the lighting. And even then, I couldn't get something of the same quality as a real camera. So I got myself a camera, and I've been using it for pictures from day one. My phone today could probably do the job, but I'm sticking with the camera for consistency. The downside, is that it's a royal PITA to get the pics all the way from the camera to the phone, and upload from there, especially while still trying to keep things organized. But now, Instagram
Ranking Pokemon Starters
Happy Pokemon Day! I know I've been quiet lately (again). I'm hoping I'll have some papercraft updates soon, but in the meantime, because it's Pokemon Day, I've decided to do the unthinkable. Today, I'm going to rank all 26 starter Pokemon from worst to best. Or rather, from least favorite to most favorite. Before we begin, a few disclaimers: I like most of the starters overall. Many of them are ranked low just because I like the higher ranked starters more. I am not including the new starter trio that was just revealed today. Having just seen them, any opinions I've formed on them are still too fresh. I am judging the first evolution stage of each starter. I'm taking how I feel about their evolutions into account, but ultimately, the first stage gets the most credit. When it comes to ranking Pokemon, I am a serious follower of elite four Karen's philosophy in that I care more about favorites than judging them as "strong" or "weak". Yes Believe Me, I Am Still Alive
Here I am making a Portal reference in 2021 - well, it is still a great game, just made by an absolutely terrible publisher. Matters of my dislike of Valve aside, I think the title is appropriate here. I've been a little inactive here lately, though I've far from abandoned Rakogis Papercraft - I've posted a bit more on Facebook, but there hasn't been too much to say because of a lot of issues. To give you a summary of the last several months: Global pandemic - Covid did a number on my social life and anxieties. When I was in high school, the idea of needing to stay indoors, away from other people (especially the idiots at my school) would have been heaven. But I'm not the same person now I was then. Having to go back to that was not good for me mentally. Printer woes - I started having issues with the magenta toner again. After realizing I did have a spare magenta cartridge after all, I went to replace it, but before I could, the printer broke completely and won't turn on. So
The Slooflirpa Technique
I know I've been less active lately - prior to the pandemic, I was on a long personal journey to learn about more advanced papercraft techniques, and during the pandemic I've been studying my findings. I started by traveling the land known as South Philadelphia, then I visited Central Philadelphia, then West Philadelphia, after that, North Philadelphia, and finally Bryn Athyn (which is a suburb northeast of Philadelphia). Here, I visited an ancient temple (the local college), where I learned about a brilliant but long forgotten papercraft technique. I learned the techniques used by mid-18th century paper philosopher, horticulturalist, and puppeteer, Pseudonius Slooflirpa by retrieving a copy of his unpublished manuscript, which is simply titled "Paper". The Slooflirpa technique is a brilliantly simple technique that, if followed correctly, even a child could build a flawless model of the most complex papercraft pattern. Oh nice, can't wait to see what you have in store. Busy with conventions I see. I'm interested in selling art in one, but I'm not sure I'm ready for that part yet though.
